Different Types of Hand Trucks and Their Uses

A hand truck, which is also known as a hand cart or dolly, is used mostly for moving heavy objects without straining a person’s back. They are most frequently used to transfer loads or cargo from one point to another such as in warehouses or businesses. However, they can also be used at home for moving appliances, furniture of boxes.

There are different types of hand truck and they include folding trucks, convertible hand truck carts, appliance hand carts, platform carts, service carts and others.

The folding hand cart is probably the most popular type of hand truck. This is because it is easy to store after use. They have different weight capacities but, because they are folding carts, they cannot handle weights like the other types of hand trucks. They are best suited for light loads and for home use.

Platform carts are used mostly in large warehouses and warehouse stores. They are used to move heavy cargo or loads from one place to the next. Some of the platform carts have removable sides so that they can be used for moving smaller objects or for protecting fragile cargo from falling off while being moved.

The Magliner hand truck cart is used for carrying very heavy and very large-sized items. They can be converted to carry loads using only 2 wheels. These heavy lifters can handle weights of up to 1000 pounds or 453.6 kilos. If the load to be carried is rather heavy, the cart can be converted to a 4 wheel hand cart.

The appliance hand truck is used for moving heavy appliances like dishwashers, washing machines or refrigerators. This type of hand truck has a solid steel or aluminum frame and has pneumatic wheels which make it capable of handling weights of up to 800 pounds on only 2 wheels. They also have belts that can be used to secure their cargo without the danger of it falling off while being moved.

Furniture hand trucks are flat, have four wheels and are carpeted to avoid scratching or damaging wooden furniture and their very expensive finishes. Because this type of hand truck has a solid frame and come with locking casters, they can only handle no more than 900 pounds of weight.

The service hand truck which is also known as the tiered-carts, are used for storing the most frequently used tools in the car industry. It has a solid metal frame which allows it to carry many tools without having it collapse.  It also has several small compartments for use in storing smaller items.

Whatever the item that needs moving, there is surely a hand truck type that is specifically designed to move it conveniently and safely.
